  • Origin: Ecuador (mainly from the regions of Azuay, Loja, and Cañar).
  • Variety: Yellow Pitahaya (Hylocereusmegalanthus), also known as Golden Dragon Fruit.

Product Characteristics

  • Flavor: Sweet, refreshing, mildly tangy, with a flavor similar to melon or pear.
  • Texture: Juicy, soft, and crunchy pulp with small black edible seeds that provide a pleasant texture.
  • Color: The skin is bright yellow with small spines, while the inner pulp is white to creamy white with black seeds.
  • Shape: Oval-shaped with thick skin that protects the internal pulp.
  • Size: Typically between 300 to 600 grams per fruit.
  • Harvesting and Ripening
  • Harvest Season: Mainly harvested from November to May, although it can be available year-round depending on growing conditions.
  • Ripening Indicators: The skin should be a bright yellow without dark spots. The fruit is ready for consumption when slightly soft to the touch, but not overly mushy.

Packaging

  • Cardboard boxes containing whole, undamaged fruits.
  • Each box contains between 5 to 8 pitahayas, depending on the size.
  • Net Weight per Box: Between 2 to 5 kg per box.
  • Additional Packaging: Protective materials such as paper or mesh nets inside the boxes to prevent damage during transport.
